Security for AI-Generated Code
In Veracode's benchmark (July 2025: 80 tasks, more than 100 models, no security instructions), 45% of tasks produced code with an OWASP Top 10 vulnerability; XSS failed 86% of the time and log injection 88%. The July 2026 edition came out almost the same: a 56% average pass rate, with larger models barely two points better. This guide teaches you to detect, prevent and fix vulnerabilities in code produced by any AI tool, with the **OWASP Top 10:2025** as the framework: vulnerability patterns by language, detection tools (Bandit, pip-audit, gitleaks, Semgrep and CodeQL in CI), a security review checklist, hardening and secrets management. It also covers the **risks specific to coding agents**: prompt injection through what the agent reads, secrets in its context, dangerous commands and hallucinated dependencies (slopsquatting), with a guardrails kit you connect as a hook. 7 modules and a final project: a complete security audit with a professional report. It applies to any AI tool.

Outcomes
What you'll be able to do
- Interpret the security data on AI-generated code rigorously (Veracode 2025 and 2026, Stanford CCS 2023)
- Apply the OWASP Top 10:2025 to AI-generated code patterns, and translate references from the 2021 edition
- Identify common vulnerability patterns: SQL injection, XSS, path traversal, SSRF, secrets in code
- Set up automatic detection locally and in CI: static analysis, dependency scanning, secrets detection, Semgrep and CodeQL
- Apply hardening: sanitization, input validation, output encoding, parameterized queries
- Defend against coding agent risks: indirect prompt injection, secrets in the context, dangerous commands and slopsquatting, with the lethal trifecta as the quick test
- Run a complete security audit and produce a professional report
Before you start
What you need to bring
It's for you if...
- Developers who generate code with any AI tool and want to make sure it is secure
- Tech leads responsible for the quality of AI-generated code on their team
- Security engineers assessing the impact of coding agents on their security posture
- DevOps engineers integrating security scanning into pipelines
- Any professional developer who wants the security review skill for AI-generated code
Requirements and materials
- Experience generating code with any AI tool
- Intermediate Python (the examples you run are in Python; JavaScript and Java show up for pattern recognition)
- Basic web security concepts: HTTP, HTML, forms, APIs
- Basic SQL (to understand SQL injection)
- Command line and basic Git
- No prior security experience required: the guide builds from scratch

No limit. It's a free guide: come in whenever you like, as often as you like.
No. Modules run from easier to harder, but you can jump to the one you need. Progress is saved per lesson.
